Stellar Students Inducted into UPE Honor Society

On October 19, 50 outstanding Seidenberg students and one faculty member were inducted into the New York Delta Chapter of Upsilon Pi Epsilon (UPE) at Pace University. In the opening of the induction ceremony, Sotiris Skevoulis, professor of computer science, gave a talk on “Software Engineering: The Road to Rigorous Software Development, Education and Practice”. Dean Knapp Confers Degrees at Graduation in Bangalore

Constance Knapp, interim dean, spent the year-end holiday in India. Accompanied by Narayan Murthy, PhD, and Daniel Farkas,PhD, chairs of the Westchester computer science and information technology departments, respectively, she conferred degrees on the 15 students who recently completed MS in Internet Technology degrees. For the past two years, these students, all employees of AOL/India, took courses online along with their fellow classmates in the U.S.  Continue reading “Dean Knapp Confers Degrees at Graduation in Bangalore”

James Lawler, DPS, conducted workshops on the ongoing community engagement partnership programs between Seidenberg and AHRC New York City at NYSARC’s 60th Anniversary Convention

On October 23, Dr. James Lawler with Darinka Vlahek and Yuliya Khripunkova of AHRC New York City’s Adult Day Care Services, presented workshops on Community Empowerment through Person-centered Planning Presentations: A Project of AHRC New York City and Pace University at the NYSARC 60th Anniversary Convention. NYSARC is the largest nonprofit organization in the state that works for and with developmentally disabled people and their families. This project, undertaken by students in Dr. Lawler’s course in Community Empowerment through Information Systems and Technologies (CIS 102W), was designed to enable individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities by having them create and present person-centered plans for self-development and growth. The plans were created with the assistance of students using multimedia technology and tools. By the end of the fall 2009 semester, nearly 40 students will have helped 40 individuals from five different AHRC facilities across New York City develop personal plans. The program is scheduled to continue in spring 2010 and subsequent semesters until fall 2012. Federico Younes awarded a UPE Scholarship

Federico YounesFederico Younes, a computer science major on the Pleasantville campus, was one of two undergraduate students nationwide to be awarded a $1,000 UPE Scholarship.  UPE, short for Upsilon Pi Epsilon, is the only international honor society for the computing and information disciplines. While this scholarship has been available for a number of years, this is the first time that a Pace student has applied for consideration.
