SICI Computer Forensics Workshop a Big Success
At the request of the Seidenberg Institute for Computing Innovation (SICI), a newly established faculty development organization, Professor Darren Hayes organized a day-long workshop to teach practical skills in the burgeoning field of computer forensics to Pace faculty and students as well as invited faculty from other institutions. The workshop, which featured presentations by law enforcement experts, Hayes, and a specialist in forensic software tools, was well-attended and exceptionally well-received. After 22 years, Professor Joseph Bergin Retires
“I have had an ideal career at Pace, being paid to do what I love – to think, to write, to share ideas with students and colleagues.” These are the words of Dr. Joseph Bergin, Professor of Computer Science, who retired at the end of the summer after 22 years at Pace. Seidenberg Institute for Computing Innovation Launched
Eleven Seidenberg faculty members and six faculty from other academic institutions in the area, participated in the first gathering of the Seidenberg Institute for Computing Innovation (SICI) held at the Graduate Center (WP) in mid-May. Established by Professors Lixin Tao and Li-Chiou Chen, the SICI is a faculty development forum for sharing information and materials on the latest computing technologies and on how to integrate hands-on labs on specific topics into the curriculum. The event was well received. Future plans include expanding participation to involve students and Seidenberg alumni as well encouraging interaction on an ongoing basis through the creation of a SICI Web site.
Faculty Member Receives IBM Smarter Planet Innovation Grant
Professor Christelle Scharff is one of only 50 faculty throughout the world to receive an IBM Smarter Planet Innovation Grant. The $10,000 grant will be used to further collaboration among students at Pace with students from universities in Cambodia, India and Senegal to develop mobile and Web solutions to pressing global problems in transportation, health care and education. Dean Knapp Confers Degrees at Graduation in Bangalore
Constance Knapp, interim dean, spent the year-end holiday in India. Accompanied by Narayan Murthy, PhD, and Daniel Farkas,PhD, chairs of the Westchester computer science and information technology departments, respectively, she conferred degrees on the 15 students who recently completed MS in Internet Technology degrees.
