Two of the 10 Best Paper Awards given out at the recent Information Systems Education Conference (ISECON) went to Seidenberg School faculty – Professor James Lawler and Professor Anthony Joseph for their research in cloud computing and Professor John Molluzzo and Vijal Doshi (MS/IS) for their paper on social networking. As the Seidenberg Scholars Program enters its 5th year, the school welcomes five outstanding 1st year students into its ranks. They include Brooke Ribelin from Linwood, NC; Michael Cornell from Fishkill, NY; Julie Gauthier from Amston, CT; Cayman Mitchell from Rowlett, TX; and Wayne Williams from Brooklyn, NY.
Brooke, Michael and Julie all became familiar with the Seidenberg School’s programs and its supportive community as well as life in the “Big Apple” while participating in the 2010 Seidenberg Scholar Summer Experience prior to entering their senior year of high school. At the request of the Seidenberg Institute for Computing Innovation (SICI), a newly established faculty development organization, Professor Darren Hayes organized a day-long workshop to teach practical skills in the burgeoning field of computer forensics to Pace faculty and students as well as invited faculty from other institutions. The workshop, which featured presentations by law enforcement experts, Hayes, and a specialist in forensic software tools, was well-attended and exceptionally well-received. “I have had an ideal career at Pace, being paid to do what I love – to think, to write, to share ideas with students and colleagues.” These are the words of Dr. Joseph Bergin, Professor of Computer Science, who retired at the end of the summer after 22 years at Pace. Following months of intensive review by computer science faculty, the curricula for several graduate programs – the M.S. in Computer Science, the M.S. in Telecommunications Systems and Networks and the M.S. in Software Development and Engineering – have been updated to meet the needs of today’s students in an increasingly specialized workplace. Fourteen IBM India employees are pursuing an M.S. in Computer Science under a newly formed partnership between the University and the corporation. The students, who are scattered all over India, take classes online along with their counterparts in the U.S. and are expected to complete their degrees in five semesters.
